The Calico Plains, stretching across a vast area of the state of Siccus, are truly unique. Patches of prairie a few miles wide are surrounded by thin layers of trees, making it appear rather like a calico cat's tortishell pelt from an aerial view and a hybrid between plains and forest. The southern end is thicker in trees and has more of the deciduous type, and as the plains stretch further north the trees thin out more and become more predominantly coniferous. One theory as to how this one-of-a-kind land feature came about was that it was a massive forest at one point, and the explosion of the Caverns killed some of the trees and left others, creating the eccentric pattern. Frequent streams cut through the land.
