Scars of Old
Not only do the mountains of Montis have cities, caves, and meadows, but numerous canyons as well. They come in all shapes, sizes and varieties - overhangs, wrinkle-like folds, deep scars, shallow cracks, wide as the old Earthen Mississippi and narrow as a creak, steep and gentle slopes, smooth and craggy walls, round craters and long furrows, and anything and everything between and beyond. Some are bare rock; Most are as yet being carved by rivers and streams; Many flourish with high-altitude plants and animals, such as evergreens, shrubbery, mountain sheep and goats, cougars, and even some deer, wolves, and elk, and all manner of others. There are even a number of fairly large valleys, where the Montisan inhabitants have set down roots. Take careful note of your direction when travailing these mountainous scars, however - there's plenty of hidden magnetic rocks to confuse compasses, the sun rises and sets later and earlier in the deeper canyons, and the wind howls eerily on its journey out, making it easy to get lost.
